  Triple Double Basketball rules

The following rules have been designed to ensure fair play for all players. Each player is expected to understand these rules prior to participating in the tournament.

Any questions concerning these rules should be emailed or directed to the Triple Double 3on3 event staff at the admin Tent on the day. Please make an extra note about the rules in red regarding free throws and fouls.

Prior to the Game

  • Each team must have three to four players who have paid and registered their team at the Admin Tent.

  • Only the players registered can play on the day

  • All games must start with three players on each team.

  • A coin flip prior to the start of the game will determine which team has the initial possession.

Throw In/Starting Play

The ball must be ‘checked' in from the top of the ‘D' at the rear of the court to commence play and after each point is scored, this is done by passing the ball to the opposition and receiving it back to ensure they are ready.

  Length of Games

First team to score 16 points, or 20 minutes.

  Overtime

If the score is tied at the end of 20 minutes, the game goes to overtime. A coin flip determines which team has the initial possession. The game winner is the first to score 2 points in the overtime period.

  Losers Outs
The ball changes possession after each scored basket

  Shot Clock

No time wasting is allowed. The Court Marshal may institute a 30 second shot clock at any time. After a team has been warned about the shot clock, failure to attempt a shot within 30 seconds will result in loss of possession.

  Jump Balls

All jump balls become the possession of the defensive team.

  Taking It Back
When in play, the ball must be "taken back" on each change of possession. "Taking it back" means BOTH feet must be behind two-point arc. Failure to "take it back" will result in change of possession.

Scoring

Baskets made from the inside the arc count one point. Baskets made when the shooter has BOTH FEET behind the arc count two points.

Court Marshals will call "two points". If there is any doubt by the Court Marshals as to whether the basket made is worth one or two points, the basket will count as one point

Free Throws

Free throws count as one point. When fouled in the act of shooting, free throws are awarded to the fouled shooter only when the basket was not made (1 shot or 2 shots depending where they were fouled).

All free throws are dead balls. Regardless of whether the free throw(s) are made, the attacking team gets possession at the top of the box.

Fouls

Each player should call their own fouls and the opposing team should respect this call. In the event that there is a dispute the Court Marshal has the final say.

Flagrant fouls or continuous misconduct will result in team dismissal from the tournament. Foul language, violent threats and any physical abuse will not be tolerated. All flagrant fouls are called by the Court Marshal.

Any questions or disputes will be discussed only with the team spokesperson and the Court Marshal. Disputes will not be heard after the game has been completed.

A Triple Double Staff member has the right to at any time, immediately implement the shooting of foul shots, terminating a game, disqualify any team for misconduct and/or escort a player or team from the premises.

After the Game

The Court Marshall will score deliver the score sheet the Admin Tent which will then update the Master Scoreboard.

THE MASTER SCOREBOARD CONTAINS THE OFFICIAL SCHEDULE FOR THE TOURNAMENT. AFTER EACH GAME, EACH TEAM MUST CHECK THE MASTER SCOREBOARD FOR FUTURE SCHEDULING AND INFORMATION.

Finally

GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY THE DAY!
